This seminar will cover how to use Twitter as a writer. It will be geared towards both the novice and experienced Twitter user – experienced Tweeps (Twitter users) can mentally tune out for the first few minutes while I explain what Twitter is and how to set up an account.

Topics to be covered:

  • What is Twitter and why writers should use it
  • Getting started – creating an account, setting up your profile, writing your bio, etc.
  • How to start connecting with people – who to follow, what to tweet, etc.
  • Twitter content – what to tweet, what not to tweet, how often, ratio of links to original content to retweets, etc.
  • Hashtags – what they are, how they work
    • Important hashtags for writers - #amwriting, #amreading, #book, etc.
    • Other Twitter jargon to know: “Tweeps,” “handle,” “unfollow,” “DM,” etc.
    • How to utilize the unique features of Twitter – conversations, how to participate in live Twitter chats, how to use Twitter lists, retweeting versus quoted retweets, etc.
    • Twitter etiquette – how to recognize bots and spammers, DMs versus @ tweets, how to handle trolls, the double-edged sword of auto follow-backs, scheduling versus all live tweeting, pros and cons of push tweets from Facebook or Instagram, etc.
